[…] HBO isn’t in the busi­ness of pro­duc­ing episodes in the tra­di­tional man­ner. Rather, it airs equal slices of an over­all story over a fixed series of weeks. If I may put words into his mouth: HBO doesn’t air episodes of tele­vi­sion, it airs installments.

Inter­es­sante Gedanken zu den Verän­derun­gen die HBO ins amerikanis­che Seriengeschehen gebracht hat. Ist der langsame Auf­bau mit einem Pay-Off irgend­wann wirk­lich so viel besser als eine Folge die klas­sis­che Ele­mente enthält und in sich geschlossen ist? Ich glaube ja, dass bei­des geht und würde jedem TV-Schreiberling die Vampir-Soap “Vam­pire Diaries” empfehlen. Dort geht sowohl der große Arc, aber trotz­dem ist jede Folge bis zum Anschlag voller Wen­dun­gen. Und das so schnell, dass ein Sucht-Effekt entsteht.
